AQG Bus Trip

We are getting ready for the annual AQG Quilt Show “Let Freedom Ring” bus trip to Glendale on Friday, March 20th. The location has changed to the Martin Auto Museum at 4320 W. Thunderbird Rd.

The show should be yet another great gathering of quilts and quilters. Of course the vendors, lectures and classes are always a great way to spend a day in the valley of the sun.

We will have one bus making two pick ups—in Prescott, Walmart parking lot on
Hwy. 69 at 6:45 am and Prescott Valley, Kohl’s parking lot on Glassford Hill Rd. at 7:00 am. There will be bottled water provided. Please feel free to bring any
snacks you might like to have on the ride.

The cost is $59 which is only $2 more than last year. This includes the bus trip, entry to the show, bottled water and PRIZES! We have 54 seats available and MTQG members will have priority. After the February meeting any open seats will be available to guests and outside guild members.

Sign up sheets will be at the January and February meetings. Payment by cash or check only will be required when you register.

Let’s have some fun—QUILTER’S ROAD TRIP!!!

2025-2026 Block of the Month

We are in the home stretch. All of our blocks have been constructed and now it is just time to add sashings and cornerstones to Gemtones and construct the quilt top of Graceful Garden. Find the finishing directions for Graceful Gardens here and scroll down to the Finishing Instructions. Be advised that the blocks, as completed according to the designers directions, are different sizes and I found I needed to add sashings that are not called for in the directions, in order to put my quilt top together. I will not give the directions for the sashings I added as there are several ways and locations that will get the blocks to fit and you can do what pleases you with the fabrics you have enough of to get the top together. As I have said before, this designer really needed an editor. There were so many errors in her directions that I would never choose to use her free designs again.. You get what you pay for!

For Gemtones, find the directions here: and scroll to the bottom for the finishing directions. There are no corrections to this pattern. This quilt top went together very easily and looks great! I will show my completed quilt tops for both projects at our next meeting. Please finish your quilts in the next few months and don’t hesitate to enter them in our quilt show.   Sue Szot

Community Quilts

Suzy Davidson & Peggie McKenzie

Peggie and I want to thank everyone who helped at the January Community Quilts meeting. We were able to sort and label the remaining boxes from our last donation, ready for a sale in February. And we used all the available batting to prepare quilts for all you eager quilters. At the February meeting we will be asking you to piece backings that have been matched to tops. We have several bins ready and until the backs are sized and pieced we can not get them ready for batting. So please bring your sewing machine and help us with this important project.

Thank you and we hope to see you at the next member meeting and then at
Community Quilts on February 23.

Sheriff’s Visit

“Today we had a special guest from the Yavapai Sheriff’s Office, Captain Jared Winfrey.  He came to thank the guild for providing quilts to their offices throughout Yavapai County.  His stories (and mixing up blankets for quilts) had us either laughing or crying.

He shared how our quilts comforted, especially children, who survive car crashes when their parents didn’t,  children affected by Narcotics raids or removed from homes where there was all types of  abuse.  They also work directly with the schools and other agencies to bring awareness of a child’s trauma so they can receive help, support and counseling.  He shared a personal story about adopted children receiving quilts and still having them years later.

Thanks Community Quilts for making this possible!

He presented Diane Stockhaus a certificate of appreciation for the Guild’s support signed by Sheriff Rhodes.”

Meals on Wheels Placemats

Happy New Year! Collection of placemats resumes at the January meeting and will continue all year through November. The placemats are delivered to the Prescott Meals on Wheels on a monthly basis. So, it’s important NOT to make any that are holiday and/or religious themed as the placemats are used year-round. Also, themes that are patriotic are accepted, however political themes are not.

After discussions with the directors at Meals on Wheels and at the Prescott Valley Senior Center Happy Meals, I’m back to requesting that labels be attached to the backs of each placemat. Apparently, the recipients really enjoy knowing who has donated them.

Thanks to all that have contributed to this wonderful outreach program. The placemats are so appreciated—-and, so much fun to make!
