Block of the Month 2023-2024

Sue Szot, the new chair for Block of the Month, invites you to participate in this year’s Block of the Month. Click here for the website that has all the block information.

Click each month and it will take you to the specific block for the month.

There are only 8 blocks in this quilt, but as shown there will be setting triangles and a pieced border.  Block 1 will be August, Block 2 September,  Block 3 October, Block 4 November, Block 5 January, Block 6 February, Block 7 March, Block 8 April, I think we are all busy enough in December that we can take that month off. May will be finishing instructions along with the pieced border. June will be sharing the completed quilts and/or quilt tops.

We will be working on a project featured on AllPeopleQuilt.com as the BOM for May, 2014. I have been unable to obtain its name. Requests to its designer, Monique Dillard of Open Gate Quilts, have remained unanswered, but I believe this will be a fun project. This quilt has eight 9″ blocks and each block is surrounded by setting triangles. The quilt is shown in a planned color pallet, but could easily be made scrappy, using up your stash. The finished size of this quilt is 55 1/2 inches by 73 1/2 inches. Please consider making each quilt block twice, in the same or a completely different colorway. At year’s end, you will have two beautiful quilts, one to keep or give to a
loved one, and one to donate to our Community Quilts Project. Because we live in a digital age, copies of  the block will not be made available on
paper. To get directions, please sign up to receive the monthly block instructions via email. Contact Sue Szot.

Past Blocks of the Month

Community Quilts

Our plan is to continue the sale of our fabric grab bags – one pound (more or less!) of miscellaneous fabric pieces for $1, as well as other miscellaneous fabric pieces, to help reduce the fabric stash. Come enjoy the shopping!
The monthly Community Quilts workshop will be held on Monday, April 22, at the Elks Lodge in Prescott Valley, starting at 9:00. As usual, we will have quilt backs that need to be pieced, batting to be cut, and our ever popular Free to a Good Home table.. Happy quilting!

2023-2024 Community Quilt Challenge

We’ll, it’s that time again…the MTQG Quilt Show Community Quilts Challenge! This biennial tradition allows Guild members to how off their creativity with a display at the 2024 Quilt Show, following some basic
rules for the challenge. This year, each participant will receive three yards of coordinated fabric from the Guild stash, with instructions for quilt assembly. Prior to the 2024 Show, Guild members will vote on their favorite submission, and prizes will be awarded to the top three vote getters. Then, all submissions will be displayed in a separate section of the Show, along with information for the public to better understand our charitable activities. After the Show, all submissions will be donated to one of the charities we usually support.

If you are participating in the biennial Community Quilts Quilt Show challenge, please remember that entries must be submitted at the April 15,  2024 regular meeting. This means that the entry must be ready for donation, that is, it must be quilted, binding attached, and a guild label affixed to the
back of the quilt. Voting on your favorite creation will be held during the May
meeting, with awards going to the top three vote getters. All submissions will be displayed at the Quilt Show, to share with the community the fine efforts of our members

New Member Group

The New Member group meeting took place on April 4th. All members had projects to share from full size quilts, and wall hangings with custom exotic leather and another with hand painted pieces and applique blocks. Fun stuff.

Lori demonstrated how to use Applipop circle makers which are very handy when very small applique circles are needed. Everyone was reminded to submit paperwork for quilt show entries by the next guild meeting.
Our next meeting will be on June 6th from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at John Ramsey’s home, 602 Panorama Drive, Prescott. Call or text for directions 623-680-3975. We will have a show and tell and encourage everyone to bring their favorite sewing gadget. Look forward to seeing everyone at our next
meeting.

No special sewing skills are required – just a willingness to share your love of sewing with a youngster!
