2025-2026 Block of the Month

The end is in sight. Our quilt tops are done. Now is the time to create the quilt sandwich with backing, batting and the top, and determine what quilting will be applied to finish the project. Either of these projects, Gemstones or Graceful Gardens, would make a great addition to our upcoming quilt
show. When you have finished your quilt, please bring it to our guild to share with the rest of us.

I have chaired the Block of the Month for three years now and am stepping down from this role. If you have any interest in fulfilling this role, please let me know. I will be happy to answer any questions you might have. Our year ends in June, so your service will be from July 2026 to June 2027.
Happy quilting.

For Gemtones, find the directions here: and scroll to the bottom for the finishing directions. There are no corrections to this pattern. This quilt top went together very easily and looks great! I will show my completed quilt tops for both projects at our next meeting. Please finish your quilts in the next few months and don’t hesitate to enter them in our quilt show.   Sue Szot

Community Quilts

Suzy Davidson & Peggie McKenzie

Thanks to everyone who participated in March and matched tops to backs and those who then made the backs. We also cut batting for many quilts, so if you can please pick up one or two or three at the April member meeting to quilt.

At the April 27th meeting of Community Quilts, we will continue working on backings and cutting batting. We also have some miscellaneous pieces that would make great placemats for the Meals on Wheels program.

Just a reminder, the Community Quilts Challenge is due at the May meeting. It
does not count as one of your quilt show entries and will be voted on by members at that meeting, not at the quilt show. If you still need backing or batting, please come to the community quilt meeting to pick it up.

Community Quilts will not meet in May as it is Memorial Day and also just 5 days before our amazing quilt show. If you haven’t already, get your quilts registered for the show.

Sheriff’s Visit

“Today we had a special guest from the Yavapai Sheriff’s Office, Captain Jared Winfrey.  He came to thank the guild for providing quilts to their offices throughout Yavapai County.  His stories (and mixing up blankets for quilts) had us either laughing or crying.

He shared how our quilts comforted, especially children, who survive car crashes when their parents didn’t,  children affected by Narcotics raids or removed from homes where there was all types of  abuse.  They also work directly with the schools and other agencies to bring awareness of a child’s trauma so they can receive help, support and counseling.  He shared a personal story about adopted children receiving quilts and still having them years later.

Thanks Community Quilts for making this possible!

He presented Diane Stockhaus a certificate of appreciation for the Guild’s support signed by Sheriff Rhodes.”

If you have an idea for a demonstration see  Ronnie Sandoval

March 16, 2026

Nancy Williams will demonstrate a unique way to sew a sleeve on your quilts. This will be very timely for the upcoming quilt show!

April 13, 2026

Ronnie Sandoval will have you experiment with different needles, needle threaders and threads.

Meals on Wheels Placemats

Happy New Year! Collection of placemats resumes at the January meeting and will continue all year through November. The placemats are delivered to the Prescott Meals on Wheels on a monthly basis. So, it’s important NOT to make any that are holiday and/or religious themed as the placemats are used year-round. Also, themes that are patriotic are accepted, however political themes are not.

After discussions with the directors at Meals on Wheels and at the Prescott Valley Senior Center Happy Meals, I’m back to requesting that labels be attached to the backs of each placemat. Apparently, the recipients really enjoy knowing who has donated them.

Thanks to all that have contributed to this wonderful outreach program. The placemats are so appreciated—-and, so much fun to make!

Mini Group Information

MTQG Mini Groups are smaller interest-based groups that meet at various times and locations in addition to the large monthly guild meeting. Listed are the MTQG current Mini Groups to show how much creative activity goes on behind the scenes at MTQG. Interested in a group(s), Please reach out to the contact person for information regarding availability as the groups may be full. Members are encouraged to check them out and see if there is a spot in one (or more) of these mini groups.
