Sheriff’s Visit
“Today we had a special guest from the Yavapai Sheriff’s Office, Captain Jared Winfrey. He came to thank the guild for providing quilts to their offices throughout Yavapai County. His stories (and mixing up blankets for quilts) had us either laughing or crying.
He shared how our quilts comforted, especially children, who survive car crashes when their parents didn’t, children affected by Narcotics raids or removed from homes where there was all types of abuse. They also work directly with the schools and other agencies to bring awareness of a child’s trauma so they can receive help, support and counseling. He shared a personal story about adopted children receiving quilts and still having them years later.
Thanks Community Quilts for making this possible!
He presented Diane Stockhaus a certificate of appreciation for the Guild’s support signed by Sheriff Rhodes.”

We’d like to announce the winners of the 2026 Community Quilts Challenge. We received 15 entries, all featuring the black and white printed fabric. We will award the ribbons at the June 15th meeting.
1st place Bobbie Turnbow
2nd place Joan Carrell
3rd place Bobbie Mae Ball
The ECHOS program is offered to Mountain Top Quilters members usually during the afternoon following the general meeting. Instruction in different techniques or information on how to do various projects is presented. An MTQG member free of charge or for a nominal fee to cover the cost of supplies incurred by the instructor. You do not need to sign up for demonstrations, just come by, watch, and ask questions.
All ECHOS sessions are free and held directly after the regularly scheduled Guild meetings. See Programs table for sign up information or any questions.
If you have an idea for a demonstration see Ronnie Sandoval
July 20, 2026
Ronnie Sandoval will have you experiment with different needles, needle threaders and threads. We will continue with hand stitching needles. I am going to try something different. Instead of a demonstration I’m going to have you stitch and take your sample!
September 21, 2026
I will be demonstrating Inklingo. A technique on how to print on fabric, cut the pieces and stitch together.
Collection of placemats continues June through November. Approximately 25 are delivered to the Prescott Meals on Wheels program on a monthly basis. An additional 60 are given to the Prescott Valley Happy Meals group for the December Holidays. Please avoid any religious themes. Patriotic themes are wonderful—specific political themes are not. The recipients really enjoy knowing that their handmade placemats come from a local group, so please put the MTQG labels on the back.
Thank you to all who have been so generous in supporting this wonderful endeavor.
It is time to have an opportunity for our members to get together and get to know each other better as well as a time to just relax and create. We will also have a couple of ironing boards/irons and a cutting station. But please feel free to bring your
own. You will be able to leave your machines and accessories overnight. Super
safe and locked room!! The only requirement is that we purchase lunch from
the VFW. More info on that later. Space is limited, so be sure to sign up and hold your place!!

MTQG Mini Groups are smaller interest-based groups that meet at various times and locations in addition to the large monthly guild meeting. Listed are the MTQG current Mini Groups to show how much creative activity goes on behind the scenes at MTQG. Interested in a group(s), Please reach out to the contact person for information regarding availability as the groups may be full. The 2026/2027 New Members Group meetings will be brought to you by our
committee of four – Valorie Nelson, Peggie MacKenzie, Theresa Barnard and Janice Zolnierowicz. We decided on a four team committee because 4 heads must be better than one. Right?
Our focus is to provide education about the Mountain Top Quilters Guild, demonstrate both new and familiar sewing techniques, and offer opportunities for excursions outside of our regular meeting location. We
aim to serve as a reliable resource for information and support, with a primary goal of mentoring our new members. We encourage all members to attend and share your knowledge and experiences with each other but especially with our new members.
We are planning to meet on the third Thursday of every month. At our first
meeting on July 16, we have planned several fun activities for your enjoyment:
● Activity #1: Introductions to help everyone get to know each other.
● Activity #2: An overview of MTQG activities, including a review of our website, newsletter and our New Members pamphlet. Kay Denny, a
longtime member will answer many of your questions about the guild.
● Activity #3: A special session with Kay Denny on making placemats for
donations. We will also have a demonstration creating a self-binding
placemat.
● Activity #4: We will discuss how to make a dog bed from scraps to
donate to our local shelters and rescues. A limited amount of covers
will be available for take home.
● Activity #5: Survey for topics of interest for future meetings.
When: Thursday, July 16, 2026
Time: 9:30 am – 12:00 pm
Location: StoneRidge Community Center, Upstairs Board Room, 1300 StoneRidge Drive, Prescott Valley
If you decide to join us for our first meeting, we promise a valuable learning opportunity and the chance to build lasting friendships.

On Monday, June 1, a group of us went to the Prescott Library and hung a display of patriotic quilts in the Viewerie. We put up all of the President’s Challenge quilts from the Quilt Show. We also included a Quilt of Valor and many other patriotic quilts all made by members of MTQG. It took a couple of hours to put up the various quilts resulting in a beautiful display. The quilts will be on display at the Prescott Library from June 1st until June 30th. Shown below: Diane Stockhaus, Karin Toci, Charlotte Maris, Ronnie Sandoval, Susan
Perry and Susan Ryan.
The next session of Youth Quilting begins Tuesday, August 18, from 3:30 to 5:30 pm at the Elks Lodge. If you are aware of kids aged 10-17 who are interested in learning sewing and quilting skills, please have their parents contact me.
