MTQG Grapevine Update for May 2020
Please read this entire message.

Good morning, everyone! I hope that all of you are working hard on your UFOs and Quilt Show entries, and staying safe. The board held their May meeting on May 18, and discussed many items of interest to all of you. So, let me pass along information.

Our next meeting, current anticipated for June 15, is cancelled. Due to the recent pandemic the church’s advisors have determined that future utilization will be placed on hold until after procedures for cleaning and sanitization have been finalized and passed to all users of the facility. Guidance from the governor will factor into this process, so we must be patient. What does that mean? The June guild meeting is cancelled.

Since we haven’t been able to meet for a few months, we decided that it might be time for members to turn in completed projects, such as Community Quilts items or the products for sale at the Quilt Show Boutique. To that end, several of the board members will be in the Church parking lot on Monday, June 15, starting at 9am, to collect items you may wish to turn into the guild. We plan to be in the parking lot for two hours, leaving at 11am. If you wish to pick up kits to work on, I will have several to choose from, and invite you to take something to work on. If you are participating in the Community Quilt Challenge, you can drop off your submission with Charlene Coxworth, who will also be in the church parking lot on the 15th. We currently believe that our membership will be able to meet at the church in July, at which time we will have the Community Quilt Challenge reveal and voting. Charlene will contact participants to ensure they are aware of this current plan.

Membership renewals ($35/year) can also be dropped off with a Board Member during the drive-thru time on June 15th. If there is a change to your directory information, please fill out a new Membership Form (which can be found on the MTQG website, under the Forms tab) and submit it with your dues. If you wish to mail your renewal, please send it to MTQG, PO Box 12961, Prescott, AZ 86305.

Community Quilts workshops – Las Fuentes asked us to stay away again for the June workshop. So, we’re on hold until they are ready to allow public access to their facility. Prepared kits for making tops and kits for quilting are still available at either the home of Dona Speights or Diane Stockhaus, as well as during the drive-thru event on June 15th, for members to pick up and work on as time permits. This is a good way to continue contributing. to our community. We will also have kits to complete at the June 15th drive thru.

Quilt Show – Plans continue to execute our biennial show, now scheduled to be held over Labor Day weekend…September 4-5, 2020, with set up on September 3. Susan Perry and Kristi McHugh have successfully negotiated this postponement at no additional cost to us, so we will have to work hard to ensure attendance is high. More planning meetings will be conducted, so stay tuned for more information to come from Susan and Kristi.

Last month, I reported that the Mask Making project was complete. Then, I started getting email and phone calls indicating that there is still a need for more masks…so if you wish, please put together some more masks, and bring them to the drive-thru on June 15th. Elastic is in very short supply, so you may wish to consider making fabric ties. Alternative drop off points for masks and other completed projects are still at the homes of Dona Speights (in Prescott Valley) or Diane Stockhaus (central Prescott). Addresses are in the current member directory.

Updated 2020-2021 Committee Chair openings – Currently, there are several openings for volunteers to chair several committees, so if you have the desire to help out, please contact Diana Ramsey. The committees currently needing a chair: Block of the Month Coordinator; Photographer; Refreshments (to co-chair with Dolores Schrock); Spring 2021 Luncheon; and 2022 Opportunity Quilt development and marketing. A brief description of responsibilities is contained in the annual Directory.

So we don’t forget, May birthdays are: Maureen Carr; Rae Cooper; Suzy Davidson; Charlee Evans; Cindy Henaghan; Cheryl Kempton; Dagmar Morgan; Deb Mulcahy; Meg Roberson; Irene Starr; Kathy Stewart; Beverly Thomas; Tess von Nessi; and Rosemarie Watson. We will award one of these celebrants with the May free pattern at our next guild meeting. Happy Birthday, everyone!

And, because I think we could use a little bit of encouragement, please enjoy the following (author unknown, but making the rounds!):

I hear some people are starting to feel stressed in lockdown!
Actually, I was just talking about this with my sewing machine, and she seamed to agree.
But when I asked the elastic, it just snapped back!
I think it was stretched to the limit.
So I tried to talk to the cotton, but it shrank away.
The linen was in a bunch.
The scissors were snippy.
Even the stuffing was down.
When I came around to ask the buttons, they just gaped.
The snaps suggested I get a grip.
Thankfully, the iron gave it to me straight and reminded me this will all be smoothed over soon…

I hope that you are all in good health, and I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting.

Regards,
Diane Stockhaus
