2020 Quilt Show Report
After many months of planning, the MTQG 2020 Quilt Show was cancelled with a unanimous decision by the Quilt Show Committee June 25, 2020 due to safety concerns regarding the Coronavirus dangerous threat to our members and attendees of the quilt show. We were disappointed, but this was the right decision. We will address questions in the July MTQG newsletter.
MTQG June 17 Update
Well, everyone, Monday’s drive-by virtual guild meeting was a roaring success! So many of you stopped by and dropped off Quilt Show entry forms; completed quilt tops; completed quilts; boutique items; Community Challenge entries; Small Quilt Auction items; and membership renewals. It was just like having our regular monthly meetings, only we were outside enjoying the beautiful day! And, yes, I came home sunburned!
As I mentioned in my last grapevine message, your voting response for the coming leadership team was overwhelmingly positive. Our incoming President, Diana Ramsey, will be assuming administrative guild functions beginning on July 1st, with Maureen Carr (President – Elect), Suzy Davidson (Treasurer) Ronda Hatfield (Secretary), and Erin Sullivan (Programs) helping in their respective elected functions. Thank you for your responses!
And, yes, we are still planning for the upcoming biennial Quilt Show, but we are well aware that decisions made by local and state officials may affect our plans. I know that Susan Perry and Kristi McHugh (Quilt Show co-chairs) are working hard to ensure a successful event, working within approved guidelines established to ensure everyone has a safe experience. I am sure they will reach out to our membership soon, seeking help with the myriad tasks to pull off a great show. Please help out where you can, and within your comfort level.
Once we can meet again in person, we will resume distribution of the Birthday pattern give-away, as well as the give-away for Community Quilt efforts. If you did not mark your CQ submission with your name, please let me know, so that your name goes into the hat for your chance at the give away. Remember, for each completed quilt top, each quilted item, each item you applied binding to, you get a chance to win. Since we haven’t met since March, it makes sense to me that drawings are held for each month that work continued, even if we weren’t in the same room. Right?
We have also been given space to display the Opportunity Quilt at this year’s Courthouse Plaza Arts and Crafts Show, to be held July 3-5, from 9am to 5pm. This means we have an urgent need for volunteers to help out in two-hour shifts for those three days. Please contact Kathy Hofmeister if you are able to help with this significant event. There will be specific health safety guidelines, which Kathy will share with all volunteers. Please help out, as selling opportunities for our quilt is a major fund raiser for the guild.
And finally, please allow me to thank each of you for your support to the guild and our mission during the last year. It has been challenging, but very worthwhile. I am certain that Diana and her team will continue our great work in the community.
With warm regards,
