Fall has arrived and Halloween is near. There’s a lot of spooky things showing up in the neighborhood, but our block of the month is not one of them. The trick is to follow the instructions carefully and the treat is a nice looking block. Make four of Block D for Points of Interest and you are done.

Thank you to everyone who attended last month’s Community Quilts session. Thanks to your hard work, we successfully backed 50 quilts that are now ready for quilting.
We invite all members, including our new members, to join us for our next session on September 28 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Please bring your sewing machine and join the fun. The AccuQuilt cutter will be available for anyone looking to add a unique touch to their projects. You are also welcome to bring a lunch or a treat to share.
The Community Quilt Share Table has assorted books, patterns, fabrics, and other quilting and sewing items, all free to members. Members were reminded that the table itself was not included. Additionally, please consider looking through your sewing rooms for items you no longer use to place on our “Free Table” for other Mountain Top Quilt Guild members to enjoy.
An assortment of fabric and batting will be available for purchase by the yard. If you would like to order a full roll of batting for $180, please notify us in advance via text or at MTQGCQ@gmail.com so we can ensure it is available for you. Thank you all for your continued support and dedication to Community Quilts.

“Today we had a special guest from the Yavapai Sheriff’s Office, Captain Jared Winfrey. He came to thank the guild for providing quilts to their offices throughout Yavapai County. His stories (and mixing up blankets for quilts) had us either laughing or crying.
He shared how our quilts comforted, especially children, who survive car crashes when their parents didn’t, children affected by Narcotics raids or removed from homes where there was all types of abuse. They also work directly with the schools and other agencies to bring awareness of a child’s trauma so they can receive help, support and counseling. He shared a personal story about adopted children receiving quilts and still having them years later.
Thanks Community Quilts for making this possible!
He presented Diane Stockhaus a certificate of appreciation for the Guild’s support signed by Sheriff Rhodes.”

We’d like to announce the winners of the 2026 Community Quilts Challenge. We received 15 entries, all featuring the black and white printed fabric. We will award the ribbons at the June 15th meeting.
1st place Bobbie Turnbow
2nd place Joan Carrell

Collection of placemats continues all year except December. Approximately 25 are delivered to the Prescott Meals on Wheels program on a monthly basis. An additional 60 are given to the Prescott Valley Happy Meals group for the December Holidays. Please avoid any religious themes. Patriotic themes are wonderful—specific political themes are not. The recipients really enjoy knowing that their handmade placemats come from a local group, so please put the MTQG labels on the back.

Welcome all members to our New Members October meeting where we will continue to share what our wonderful guild has to offer. In July, we shared the opportunity to make and donate placemats to Meals on Wheels and other worthy organizations. We demonstrated how to make them with a self- binding technique. In August, it was off to Prescott Quilt Works and the owner Coco who told us all about her shop. September, we learned that the guild has more than one Accuquilt Cutter machine, we cut fabrics and became certified to check out the machines and dies. Then we started a folded star hot pad template top to be completed at home.
October we are bringing another exciting chance to learn more about the guild. Suzy Davidson will present information about the Mini Groups, which groups are open or closed and how to create a new one. Also not to be missed will be a Show & Tell by mini group members. And that’s not all! Christmas is just around the corner. We will demonstrate and make a completed Scandinavian Folded Star ornament that you will take home.

The committee will provide fabric strips to choose from. We will also provide irons, mats and some hanger material. Rhinestones will also be available if you want to add some to your star. Please bring the following: 1. Scissors 2. Needle for attaching ornament hanger 3. Fabric Glue (not required but you may want to use it) Here is a sneak preview of the November 19 Meeting. This will be a great meeting as well. Elizabeth Phinder will talk about programs and classes that the guild offers. Next, we will demonstrate the Apliquick rods for doing turned edge applique, folding fabric flowers and sashiko. You will have the opportunity to try one or all three as you create a small take home project. More to come on what supplies will be provided and what you will be required to bring. Please contact :Valorie Nelson, Peggie MacKenzie, Theresa
Barnard, Janice Zolnierowicz with any questions.
TOADs will be returning in January 2027! For those of you who do not know what this is, you will bring 2 projects that are Almost Done to the January 2027 meeting and the membership will vote on which one you will complete by January 2028.
Susan Perry and Diana Bare will begin sign-ups, probably in October. Participants will bring two unfinished projects in January. The group will select one, and the participant will have one year to finish it.

Diane Short introduced the guest speaker, Matthew Phillips. He is the Development and Communications Manager for U.S.VETS. He thanked the guild for the quilts it has donated to veterans moving into U.S.VETS housing.
Its northern Arizona service area covers approximately 64,000 square miles, extending to the Utah border and Kingman. U.S.VETS will travel throughout the region to help house veterans or ensure they receive the care they need. Its services include meals, clinical care, case management, workforce development, transportation, and assistance obtaining earned veterans’ benefits.
Matthew explained that U.S.VETS is a nonprofit organization that provides temporary housing and support to homeless and at-risk veterans. Its main objective is not to house veterans permanently, but to help them get back on their feet, become self-sufficient, and move forward with their lives. Matthew reported that the guild supplied quilts for veterans housed in the newly completed facilities on the VA campus. He emphasized that U.S.VETS provides the housing and the guild’s quilts provide a personal welcome.
U.S.VETS has a need for volunteers. Volunteer opportunities include kitchen service, workshops and activities for veterans, assistance with entrepreneurship and workforce development, and help with community outings. A guild member also asked about the possibility of a choral group presenting a musical program for the US VETS, which Matthew welcomed. He again thanked the guild members for all the wonderful quilts that have been donated. Matthew was presented with several boxes containing pillows, towels and several Wall Hangings.
Prescott Library Viewerie: The December theme will be “Christmas Around the World.” The guild has the full display area, approximately 40 feet long. A participation form will be available in October before the display. Items should be The Summit, September 2026 Page 10 brought to the November General meeting. Items will be installed December 1 and removed December 31, then returned at the January general meeting. Volunteers are needed for installation and removal. See Diane Short if you would like to volunteer for setup and/or take down.
The next session of Youth Quilting begins Tuesday, August 18, from 3:30 to 5:30 pm at the Elks Lodge. If you are aware of kids aged 10-17 who are interested in learning sewing and quilting skills, please have their parents contact me.
