Community Quilts

Christina Tisdale & Chrissy Henning

I want to shout out to all the guild members that attended community quilts. It was an awesome turnout and we accomplished a lot. We look forward to seeing you and anyone else that wants to join us.

We will be continuing to get all the quilt tops that have been turned in ready to go out to be quilted and distributed to all the organizations that have asked for them.

At our next general meeting we will be distributing quilts that need quilting and/or binding. We look forward to all the quilts that are being turned in to show at the guild at the meeting. By doing this, it gives everyone an idea of the quilts you can make and share with the kindness of your hearts with the community. We will also have fabric for sale.

Our next Community Quilt Day is Monday, August 27. Bring your sewing machine and have another successful day of sewing. Bring a lunch or a treat to share if you are so willing. We will be sewing from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Any questions, please

Sheriff’s Visit

“Today we had a special guest from the Yavapai Sheriff’s Office, Captain Jared Winfrey.  He came to thank the guild for providing quilts to their offices throughout Yavapai County.  His stories (and mixing up blankets for quilts) had us either laughing or crying. 

 He shared how our quilts comforted, especially children, who survive car crashes when their parents didn’t,  children affected by Narcotics raids or removed from homes where there was all types of  abuse.  They also work directly with the schools and other agencies to bring awareness of a child’s trauma so they can receive help, support and counseling.  He shared a personal story about adopted children receiving quilts and still having them years later.

Community Quilt Challenge

We’d like to announce the winners of the 2026 Community Quilts Challenge. We received 15 entries, all featuring the black and white printed fabric. We will award the ribbons at the June 15th meeting.

Mini Group Information

MTQG Mini Groups are smaller interest-based groups that meet at various times and locations in addition to the large monthly guild meeting. Listed are the MTQG current Mini Groups to show how much creative activity goes on behind the scenes at MTQG. Interested in a group(s), Please reach out to the contact person for information regarding availability as the groups may be full. Members are encouraged to check them out and see if there is a spot in one (or more) of these mini groups. This is a great chance to enjoy friendships, share ideas, and support one another in a smaller group setting.

New Member Group

This month’s meeting will be hosted by Janice Zolnierowicz and Peggie MacKenzie. We will meet at Coco’s Quilt Works with Coco and members of her staff.

Coco will tell us about her fabric lines, quilting products, as well as give us an introduction to the many events that she and her staff have each month at Prescott Quilt Works. In addition we will have a technique demonstration by Janice Z.

Our focus is to provide education about our Mountain Top Quilters Guild, answer new member questions as to how our guild operates, demonstrate both new and familiar sewing techniques, and offer excursions outside of our regular meeting location. We aim to serve as a reliable resource for information and support, with a primary goal of mentoring all our new members. We encourage ALL members to attend and share knowledge and experiences with our new members.

T.O.A.D.s (Treasured Objects
Almost Done

TOADs will be returning in January 2027! For those of you who do not know what this is, you will bring 2 projects that are Almost Done to the January 2027 meeting and the membership will vote on which one you will complete by January 2028. 

Elizabeth is looking for someone to be the TOAD Queen and head up this endeavor.

20-Year Member Recognition

The guild recognized and honored its 20-year members with gift certificates to local quilt shops as a small token of appreciation for their participation and dedication. Four members reached this milestone this year:

The Viewerie

On Monday, June 1, a group of us went to the Prescott Library and hung a display of patriotic quilts in the Viewerie. We put up all of the President’s Challenge quilts from the Quilt Show. We also included a Quilt of Valor and many other patriotic quilts all made by members of MTQG. It took a couple of hours to put up the various quilts resulting in a beautiful display. The quilts will be on display at the Prescott Library from June 1st until June 30th. Shown below: Diane Stockhaus, Karin Toci, Charlotte Maris, Ronnie Sandoval, Susan

Yavapai County Fair

 The Yavapai County Fair is celebrating America’s 250th anniversary and is now accepting applications in the Home Economics Division. This includes quilts, clothing, bags, weavings, embroidery, knitting, crocheting, etc. Basically anything made of fibers.

To enter the fair, go to Yavapaifair.com, click on PremiumBook/Entry Link, then Entry Link. Select Enter Show and Create an Account. Or if you already have an account Login. Verify your information and then select Static Exhibit on the far right. Scroll all the way down and select Home Economics, it is the next to the last selection. The next page is Pick Show, select Adult Home Economics. The Exhibitor is yourself, and the Division is what you are entering.

Read this selection carefully. They are very specific about what you are entering. Online Entry closes on August 30th. Check-in of the product begins at noon on August 31 and continues on September 1.

Please remember that the item you enter has to be made in this calendar year.

Youth Quilting Program 

The next session of Youth Quilting begins Tuesday, August 18, from 3:30 to 5:30 pm at the Elks Lodge. If you are aware of kids aged 10-17 who are interested in learning sewing and quilting skills, please have their parents contact me.
