Meeting September 21, 2026

Time: 9:30 am
Program: Joy Schwartz – “Quilt History from 1800 – 1875”

Come and hear a discussion of quilts from around 1800 to 1875. We will trace the changing habits in design and fabric of the American quilter through the
century, complete with many examples. Joy is a wealth of knowledge!! This is a lecture not to be missed!!

Every piece of art has a story. Some begin with a photograph, others with a memory, a life experience, or a simple moment that refuses to be forgotten. Our October speaker, award-winning fiber artist Deb Deaton, invites audiences behind the scenes to discover how those stories are transformed into richly textured works of fiber art through her engaging lecture and trunk show.

Through a collection of her award-winning quilts, fiber art, and mixed media textile pieces, Deb shares the inspiration behind each artwork while explaining the creative process, materials, and techniques used to bring every piece to life. From thread painting and appliqué to paints, inks, sari silk, wool fibers, cheesecloth, and unexpected embellishments, attendees will discover how combining traditional quilting with mixed media creates artwork filled with depth, texture, and dimension.

Along the way, Deb shares practical tips, favorite products, and creative insights gathered throughout her artistic journey.

Each attendee receives a resource handout featuring many of the supplies and materials she uses, making it easy to continue exploring these techniques at home. Whether you’re an experienced quilter, an aspiring fiber artist, or someone simply looking for fresh inspiration, you’ll leave with new ideas, renewed creativity, and the confidence to explore your own artistic voice.

Monthly Guild Meeting
Program: Deb Deaton, Fiber Artist’s Journey of No Rules, Just Art
Time: 9:30 am

Deb’s journey has taken her through oil, watercolor, pen and ink, charcoal, mixed media, and eventually into the rich, tactile world of fiber art. She began quilting over 30 years ago, and her artistic spirit pushed her further than making traditional quilts. That passion led to the birth of DJ’s Fiber Arts (DJ being short for Debbie Jo). As an award-winning fiber and mixed media artist, she paints her own fabrics, layered with thread, and embellished using silk, wool, beads, paint, and natural elements. Her motto: “NO RULES, JUST ART.”
