President’s Message:

April 2024

Two months until our quilt show! Are you getting your quilts ready? Don’t forget the sleeves and labels. Your entry forms need to be turned in no later than the April 15th meeting. The quilt show committees have been working hard to get all the planning done and now it’s your turn to sign up for the areas where you can help. We will need members to hang quilts, sell at the boutique, admissions, white gloves, etc. A sign up board will be available at the April meeting, and each committee chair will be able to answer any questions you have. I love helping at our shows. Seeing all the amazing quilts displayed really does inspire me to start creating for our next show. I will be sending out a flyer next week that you can forward to friends and family, post on your social media, take to your bridge club or where you meet, so you can help spread the word about our show. The show is our major fundraiser and allows us to support the programs and activities we do for two years.

March 2024

March, the beginning of Spring, a time to enjoy the sunshine and clean out that quilt stash! Maybe you will find the perfect fabric for an idea you have to enter in the quilt show, or maybe just cut up those old scraps for a dog bed. It doesn’t matter, just enjoy the process. I have started to re-sort, re-fold and re-organize so I can take advantage of the vendors at our upcoming quilt show, which will be upon us before you know it. Please get your registration forms in as soon as you have them ready so the committees can start getting their processes started. It takes a lot of work to produce the quilt show and all of you can help. Volunteer sign ups will be starting at the April meeting which is also the deadline to turn in those registrations. Remember to include your President’s Challenge quilt, My Favorite Memory does not count as one of your 5 entries. If you want your quilt hung with a group, be sure to note that on the form. Quilt show committee members will be set up before the meeting to answer any questions you might have. More information on the show can be found in the newsletter, on the website and at the meetings.

February 2024

“Valentine’s Day is more than just chocolates and flowers – it’s a chance to express love through needle and thread.” I’m sure we all have those quilts that express our love. Our quilt show theme, Every Quilt is a Memory, really emphasizes that thought. We now have over 200 quilters in our guild. I would really like each quilter to enter at least one, no, at least 2 quilts in our show. Whether a beginner or an experienced quilter, this show is really for you to share your expressions of love. Quilts can be small or large, traditional or artwork. Whatever your choice or style of quilting, we want you to share it. Don’t forget to sign up for Spring Quilt Camp April 2 – 5, our bus to the Arizona Quilters Guild show on March 25, and the upcoming workshops. Remember, quilters say “I love you” with every stitch they make! 🧵❤️

January 2024

Happy 2024!
I hope everyone had the holiday season they were hoping for and if you were traveling that you made it home safely. Our holiday party was a great event and I know everyone enjoyed seeing all the creative table decorations and of course the amazing food. Thank you to everyone who helped make the party a success. Now it’s time to get to work on those quilts for our show, “Every Quilt’s a Memory”, May 31 through June 1 at the Prescott Valley Event Center. I love helping with our quilt shows, getting quilts hung, helping visitors, and answering questions. There is something for everyone to do. And of course, it’s always fun to show your latest creations. Quilt show applications are due in March, but your quilt does not have to be completed at that time. You will need to know the finished size and if a photo is possible, great, but if not fabric swatches or color scheme will do. The finished quilts will be turned in on May 30th at the Event Center for hanging. Cheri has scheduled some great speakers and classes for us this spring so you might even get some ideas for new projects. There is so much going on please make sure to read your newsletter and check the website. That’s where you will find the most updated information. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

December

Hello Quilters!
Happy Holidays. I can’t believe it’s almost 2024, just a bit over 5 months until our quilt show. Are you working on the items you want to enter? How about the Community Quilt challenge or my challenge, Quilts with a Memory? And of course, there might be a few holiday gifts to finish up. The guild holiday party is this month, and the Board hopes you can all attend. The Board has voted to update the standing rules, available on our website, MTQG Forms, MTQG Governing Rules, something we look at every couple of years. If you have any
comments or concerns, let any Board member know. Here’s wishing a happy holiday and new year to each of you. Enjoy whatever you have planned, celebrate the season. If you are traveling, be safe and if staying here in Prescott be sure to participate in all our “Christmas City” has to offer.

November 2023

Hello Quilters!
The holidays are approaching so quickly. I am definitely having trouble getting everything
accomplished that’s on my list. If you are traveling for the holidays, I hope you travel safely
and enjoy it. I wanted to bring up a couple of things we discussed at our Board meeting. I
really need to ask that you do not enter the Lodge until 8:45 unless you are setting up at one of
the tables. Especially if we have an out-of-town speaker who needs to get set up and
organized. I know parking is often a problem so if you are coming early to get a close spot,
please stay in your car. As we are growing, we are getting a bit cramped for space, so please
be patient if the table you are trying to go to is crowded. Because of the time it takes to get
through snacks and with the length of some of our great programs, we are asking that you only
share two items at Show and Tell. Thanks for all your cooperation and understanding on these
two items. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Hello Quilters!
Happy Halloween! If you drive around town you will see that ghosts and goblins are definitely among us this year. If you have a Halloween quilt to share, please bring it to this month’s show and tell (unless it is too scary). To me Halloween marks the beginning of the holiday season, lots of treats and even a few tricks to watch out for. Making time for quilting is one of those tricks. In December Diana will share with you the updated quilt registration form so make sure
your quilts are “under construction” and plan for an April completion date. The first quilt show meeting was successful and the area chairpersons are making plans for a great, successful show. The program chair position actually books programs for 16 months, until the end of the year, so Cheri has a great lineup of programs she has started to confirm for next year and has been able to add half day classes to the two presenters left for 2023. Please stop by the program table and see if any of these classes interest you and share ideas with her about speakers you are wanting to hear. And I want to personally thank you for stepping up to help with getting our community quilts quilted. Every quilt Diane had at last month’s meeting was taken home to be finished. So, watch for more at this month’s meeting. Keep quilting and enjoy.

September 2023

Hello Quilters!
Quilt challenges, a quilt depicting a favorite memory to put in the show, or the Community Quilts challenge due in April, TOADS, Camp, Classes! There is a lot going on in our Guild and I hope everyone has found time to join in on the activities. Remember to ask anyone wearing a crocheted flower if you have questions. I know at times it can be overwhelming, but it is so much fun to meet and join your fellow quilters. If you’re a new member, please try to make it to a New Member meeting or check our website for mini group options. Both are a great way to meet members and get involved. And let’s not forget our quilt show, “Every Quilt is a Memory” , that is coming up in late May. The first quilt show meeting will be this month so you will start hearing about the plans and how you can participate at the next meeting. Boutique is already creating kits and asking for your support. As you plan your quilting time, remember the small quilt auction will be seeking your donations also. Enjoy the beginning of fall, the nights are cooler, the days will follow soon and we’ll be using all those quilts we are making.

August 2023

Hello Quilters!
Seems like summer is flying by, school has started, and I am already behind on making those Christmas gifts I planned to do last spring. I want to thank Vicki Hall for accepting the position of Opportunity Quilt Marketing Chairman and Barbara Krit for Quilt Show Hang Chairman. Two important positions, and I know we will all assist you where we can. The deadline to pay your dues to be in the directory and sign up for classes and camp has passed, but I would still urge you to rejoin. There are many benefits to being a member. We have a lot of great classes
coming up, camp and then the quilt show where I know you have beautiful work you want to display. Please remember to check the newsletter for those whose turn it is to bring snacks to the meeting. Hope to see all of you on the 21st.

July 2023

Hello Quilters!
I found this quote and I thought it sums up my quilting fairly well. “The one thing I know for sure is there are no rules in quilting. And if you think there are, then it’s time you start breaking a few.” Some of you know that I was a Home Economics major who spent five years in the retail fabric
business selling high end clothing fabric. My later job choices led me away from sewing, but my love of textiles led me to weaving. When I retired, I met a group of art quilters which is where my quilting experiences began. There are no rules in art quilting; design elements aren’t really rules, are they? That was hard on me at first, until I saw another quote, which is one of my favorite wall hangings, “When I learned it was okay to paint outside the lines my heart was happy!”
I hope you all enjoy your quilting this year and break a few rules as we all get ready for our 2024 quilt show, “ Every Quilt is a Memory. ” I know this show will be a huge success. Diana Ramsey, our Quilt Show Chairman, is already working on the logo and commemorative pin; and Carol Cooley, along with her committee, are hard at work on the boutique. I will present my idea of a quilt challenge at the July meeting which goes along with our quilt show theme. I hope you are enjoying your summer so far, and I look forward to seeing you at the July 17thmeeting.
