“Catch a Falling Star” Scrap Bag Quilt Challenge: 2015 – 2016

Bags of colorful fabrics in lights, mediums, and darks were carefully chosen for this challenge. The star block was an added quirky (and we hope fun) element. All items were placed in a paper bag and handed out to 31 volunteers in 2015 to be made into quilts which would be shown at the May 2016 meeting. Members voted for their favorites, and the top three completed quilts’ makers received gift certificates for their efforts. All quilts were to be displayed at the MTQG Quilt Show, June 4th and 5th, prior to be distributed to local community groups.

Challenge Rules:

Participants were required to use a piece (large or small) of every fabric in their challenge paper bag—36 five inch fabric squares included.

Participants could add any fabric from their own stash.

The star block must remain intact and recognizable.

The finished quilt should be about 45” x 55”.

Make quilts for everyday use; avoid holiday themes; add label to back lower left corner.

Our Community Service

Community Quilts is a service project of Mountain Top Quilters. We meet monthly at Las Fuentes Retirement Center for a workday on the 4th Monday of every month except December.

We create quilt tops, kits and “sandwich” quilts for machine or hand quilting orsew machine tying at these sewing sessions.

Kits for piecing, quilts for quilting or tying and/or binding are distributed at our monthly guild meeting.

These quilts are donated throughout Yavapai County to non-profit hospices, children’s adoptive services and women’s shelters.
